Life Coaching

There are many definitions of coaching already, and many more will probably emerge, but – put simply- life coaching is a powerful process that supports people in releasing their true potential and in making changes in their lives.

For many people their lives are not what they would have chosen if they could have had a free choice from a list of options, rather like buying a car, a house or a holiday.

And yet if you consider how you have arrived at where you are today, it has been about making numerous choices on a day-to-day basis. So why are we not where we want to be? The difference can be that for many of us the decisions we made were not conscious ones, taken with a direction in mind, or they were made by well-meaning other people on our behalf. We also find ourselves acting out of habits, formed many years ago, fashioned around beliefs and values which may no longer be appropriate.

If we get tired of the decor in our homes, we can redecorate or employ someone more skilled to do it for us, according to our specifications.

Or we grow dissatisfied with what we have in our lives, what then?

Through a structured process, life coaching at its best enables you, the client to create a sense of wellbeing and control, the like of which you may never have experienced before. By gaining clarity about where you are heading in your life and taking informed decisions to go in that direction, you literally become the captain of your ship, where previously you may have been more like a cork bobbing about in the ocean of life, going wherever the wind and the tide took you.

Friends and relatives may not instantly appreciate this new you because they may feel uncertain about where they fit in. This is one reason why a life coach is more able to support your growth in a manner that friends and family cannot- life coaches have no bested interest in the outcome. However professional, competent coaches will ensure that you consciously take into account the impact on those around you before you act.
